What to Expect

At Songbird, we offer free 30-minute trial lessons for first-time students.

How does this work?

When you schedule a trial lesson, I come to you! Simply sign up for appointment using the "Book A Trial" tab and select for the number of students you plan on enrolling! A travel fee is applied after signing up for in-home services round trip from Irvine. If you'd like to learn from the comfort of your own home and have ample parking, this may be the option for you! If you'd like to forgo the travel fee and have a more flexible schedule, online is your best bet.

What do online lessons look like?

Online lessons take place over Zoom for sound quality or Google Meet to accommodate longer lesson times. Simply look for a meeting link in your confirmation email when you book! While the content and assignments are the same as in-home lessons, online offers convenience for out-of-area students and families with tight schedules. Just make sure you have a reliable Wi-Fi connection!

How should I prepare for my Trial lesson?

Your learning environment is crucial to lesson time, so dedicate a space in your home to remove all other distractions. The day of the trial lesson is the part where we get to know each other and sing together, have a conversation about your prior musical experience, find your vocal range with a brief warm up, and sing an excerpt from your favorite song to get a sense of the style of music you'd like to work on. Remember, don't sweat it. Parents of students are more than welcome to sit in to get

I Signed up for lessons! What now?

Wonderful! By the end of your consultation, your student will leave with a clear understanding of what their lessons will entail and a bit of light homework in preparation for our next meeting. This could include learning or listening to a new song. You, the parent, will leave with a breakdown of studio pricing, policies, and a weekly agreed-upon lesson time.

I need to reschedule/cancel my lesson. What's your policy?

Life happens. Just let us know when it does. You have the option to reschedule your lesson online. As a courtesy, please contact Songbird Studio at least 24 hours prior so that we may assist you in rescheduling. If you become ill within the 24-hour period prior to your lesson, we ask that you kindly stay home to recoup, and we will schedule a make-up lesson for a later date. If a lesson is missed entirely without notice, we'll give you a call to check in, but it is unfortunately nonrefundable.

Do you work with my charter School?

We are excited to announce that Songbird Studio is a vendor IEM Sky Mountain Charter School to service homeschooling families who benefit from instructional funds. This means, it comes at no cost to you! To use the benefits of the charter school, enroll with Sky Mountain Charter School and request Songbird as a vendor through your educational specialist today.

Which curriculum do you use?

While curriculum is tailored to your student's level and goals, your student will sing and play a fairly large repertoire. We cover multitude of American folk songs, "Amazing Grace", "The Star-Spangled Banner", and "Silent Night", regardless of instrument.  The goal is musical literacy, and all of these songs have been carefully chosen with that in mind. Some of my preferred student workbooks include FULL VOICE, Faber Piano Adventures, and the Keith Snell Piano Library.
