When you schedule a trial lesson with Songbird Studio, I come to you! Send an inquiry on our contact page and we'll get a date on the calendar! There is a travel fee for in-home services round trip from Irvine. If you'd like to learn from the comfort of your own home, own a piano, and have ample parking, this may be the option for you! If you need a piano and a distraction-free environment, online is your best bet!
Just yourself. This is the part where we get to know each other and sing together. Usually, consultations are about 30 minutes in length where we have a conversation about your prior musical experience, find your vocal range with a brief warm up, and sing an excerpt from your favorite song to get a sense of the style of music you'd like to work on. Remember, don't sweat it. Parents of students are more than welcome to sit in to get a feel for the class and ask questions.
By the end of your consultation, your student will leave with a clear understanding of what their lessons will entail and a bit of light homework in preparation for our next meeting. This could include learning or listening to a new song. You, the parent, will leave with a breakdown of studio pricing, policies, and payment plan, and a weekly agreed-upon lesson time.
Life happens. Just let us know when it does. As a courtesy, please contact your instructor at least 24 hours before your lesson to reschedule or cancel. If you become ill within the 24-hour period prior to your lesson, we ask that you kindly stay home to recoup, and we will schedule a make-up lesson for a later date. If a lesson is missed entirely without notice, we'll give you a call to check in, but it is unfortunately nonrefundable.
Songbird Studio is currently having their vendor application processed through IEM Sky Mountain Charter School to service homeschooling families who benefit from charter funds. Please stay tuned! If your charter school is not listed here and you want to take lessons, request Songbird as a vendor through your educational specialist today.
While curriculum is tailored to your student's level and goals, your student will sing and play a fairly large repertoire. We cover multitude of American folk songs, "Amazing Grace", "The Star-Spangled Banner", and "Silent Night", regardless of instrument. The goal is musical literacy, and all of these songs have been carefully chosen with that in mind. Some of my preferred student workbooks include FULL VOICE, Faber Piano Adventures, and Keith Snell.
